Beginning Sewing: Your First Project - with Jessy in Lansing

Alright you've made it! It is time to sew your first garment! Jessy will walk you through this process helping you with tips and tricks of the trade. Or perhaps less tricks and more just a confidence boost knowing someone will be there to help you through if you get stuck. This class will focus on completing Pants No. 1 or Shirt No. 1 from 100 Acts of Sewing and is a total of 6 hours with a 1 hour lunch break. 

In this class you will learn:

• Seam edge finishing
• Sewing Crotch Seam - if pants
• Elastic Waistband - if doing pants
• Hemming

Before Class:

• Buy, wash and cut out fabric from traced out pattern (should be ready to start sewing!)

What to bring:

• cut out fabric pieces and your left over fabric (just in case!)
• matching thread
• 1" elastic for waistband (if pants)
• seam gauge
• pins/clips
• sewing scissors
• fabric marking utensil
• pattern and instructions

Beginning Sewing: Ultimate Beginner and Beginning Sewing: Prelude to your First Project are *not* required to take this course. However it will be assumed you have generally the knowledge covered in those two classes for this one. Such as, tracing patterns, ability to read pattern, and ability to use your own/borrowed sewing machine.

There are classroom machines available to borrow in class, no need to haul your own.
